In late April, tens of thousands of mobula rays leap from the water in what is thought to be a mating ritual. Swim with whale sharks, watch out for wahoo, be dazzled by the mahi mahi and respect the shark species – all of them. It is their aquarium.
If you choose the Tuamotus, yacht owner and Cirque du Soleil creator Guy Laliberté’s self-sustaining Nukutepipi has similar intentions. Combined with your yacht, these are two breathtakingly beautiful atolls around which to base your scuba adventure. Scuba / snorkelling off these three archipelagos is extraordinarily rewarding. Perhaps best of the best is Rangiroa’s Tiputa Pass in the Tuamotus. The entrance is like rush hour traffic for the world’s most spectacular fish. Catch the tide as it enters the lagoon. The movement of water is critical but also challenging, creating very strong currents that fish use as an aquatic helter-skelter. Extraordinary behavior.
